Perugia. L’Acropoli.
Via dei Priori.
Via dei Priori is one of the main access routes to the historic center of Perugia. From the city skyline emerges the Tower of Sciri, a monument symbol of the street and the whole city. The Tower is the only survivor, in its entirety, of an unknown number of towers that in the Middle Ages characterized the urban appearance of the city of Perugia (scholars attest to a number that fluctuates between 42 and 64 urban towers). Between the ninth and the thirteenth century, in fact, the tower represented a fundamental architectural element, as a military instrument, and as a representation of the noble prestige of the city families. And, as they have been a sign of power, so have the towers suffered divestments, reductions in height, or destruction as a result of various events over time.

Pietro Vannucci, Perugino.
National Gallery of Umbria.
2023 will be remembered as the year of Perugino. From March 4 to June 11, 2023, on the occasion of the fifth centenary of his death, the National Gallery of Umbria in Perugia celebrates with a great exhibition Pietro Vannucci (1450 ca.-1523), the most important painter active in the last two decades of the fifteenth century. The exhibition, is entitled “The best teacher in Italy. Perugino in his time“, curated by Marco Pierini, director of the National Gallery of Umbria, and Veruska Picchiarelli, curator of the museum, returns to Perugino, absolute protagonist of the Renaissance, the role of artistic preeminence that his audience and his time had assigned him, through capital tests of his production, from the training until the Marriage of the Virgin of 1504, that is, at the time when he was at the peak of his extraordinary career. The exhibition, which will take place in Perugia, Best in Travel 2023 city of Lonely Planet, is the flagship event of the centenary celebrations, coordinated by a National Committee, established by the Ministry of Culture and chaired by Ilaria Borletti Buitoni, and involves some of the most important national and international museums, such as the Uffizi Galleries in Florence, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Caen, the National Gallery in Washington, in a real scientific partnership.

Perugia. Via dei Priori.
Lago Trasimeno.
There is a close connection between the city of Perugia and Lake Trasimeno, not by chance in ancient times called the Lake of Perugia. The importance for Perugia of Trasimeno is testified by two panels of the Fontana maggiore, a monument symbol of Perugia: one reproduces two fishermen with fish, and another the Nymph of Trasimeno. If we want to go from the center of Perugia, from Fontana Maggiore, to Lake Trasimeno the shortest way is to travel via dei Priori, exit the city walls through Porta Trasimena.
