Via dei Priori
Via dei Priori è una strada storica situata nel centro di Perugia, è l’antico Decumano degli Etruschi orientata a Est/Ovest. Il toponimo attuale deriva dal nome dei 10 magistrati che nel Medioevo detennero il governo cittadino fino agli inizi del ‘700. Via dei Priori si delinea partendo dall’arco del Palazzo dei Priori e collega il cuore della città con la strada che, uscendo da Porta Trasimena, conduce al Lago Trasimeno e in Toscana. Nel corso del tempo si è guadagnata l’appellativo di via sacra dovuto alla presenza di numerosi insediamenti religiosi, come chiese e oratori. Si è inoltre arricchita di vari palazzi privati, grazie alla ristrutturazione degli edifici attuata negli ultimi tre secoli. Peculiare proprietà della via è la sua caratteristica ventosità. Oggi Via dei Priori è una delle principali vie d’accesso al centro storico. È una via ricca di attività commerciali e laboratori artigiani.
Via dei Priori
Via dei Priori is a historic street located in the center of Perugia. It was the ancient decumanus of the Etruscan and Roman city, as it was oriented to East to West. The current toponym derives from the name of the ten magistrates who directed the city government from the Middle Ages until the beginning of the 18th century. Via dei Priori starts from the arch of the Palazzo dei Priori and connects the heart of the city with the road that leads from Porta Trasimena to the nearby lake and then Tuscany. Over time it earned the appellation of Via Sacra (Holy Street) due to the presence of numerous religious settlements (such as churches and oratories). It has also been enriched with various private palaces, thanks to buildings renovations that have been carried out over the last three centuries. A peculiar feature of Via dei Priori is its characteristic windiness. Today Via dei Priori is one of the main access streets to the historic center and it is full of commercial activities and artisan workshops.
